European Jobs Network (EURES) published a detailed report stating that Norway needs engineers, teachers, nurses, bus drivers, cooks and waiters, who will be offered in this Nordic country an average monthly wage of nearly 4,500 euros. Namely, this Scandinavian country needs engineers, especially experts in mechanics, electronics, automation, hydraulics and plumbing, preschool educators, teachers, particularly in the field of natural sciences and mathematics, physicians and nurses, psychologists, bus drivers, taxi drivers, cooks and waiters. - 
Companies in Norway that are currently seeking engineers and experts from different fields are Aker Solutions, FMC Technologies, Statoil, National Oilwell Varco, Kverner, Kongsberg Group, Aibel, Roksar and Fabricom. According to the EURES, to stay in Norway you need to apply for a residence permit for a period of three months at the local police station in the country or after a foreign national finds adequate employment. A foreigner may stay in Norway six months before seeking employment.
Studies show that working conditions in Norway are among the best and most humane in the world. Workers will conclude a written contract that includes three to six months probation period before signing a long-term contract. The salary shall be paid on a monthly basis, and the employee works 37.5 hours per week, or 7.5 hours each working day, and the maximum of 40 hours a week.
European employment office said in its report that employees in Norway have 25 vacation days on average, and all those above 30 years of age have 30 days of annual leave, which is duly paid. The average wage in this Scandinavian country is one of the highest in Europe, and also in the world. Thus, the average monthly wage in Norway is currently around 36,700 kroner (NOK), or 4,384 euros. -

Duties and Responsibilities

Programme and Operational Coordination:

  • Coordinate and support four (4) regionally-based FGE Monitoring & Reporting (M&R)  Specialists to ensure high quality planning and programming processes at regional and global level in order to ensure coherence and strong delivery of the overall portfolio;
  • Design, manage and implement activities to enhance system wide coherence on implementation of FGE programmes at a global level including smooth resolution of programmatic and operational issues involved in results-based management of FGE grants;
  • Ensure appropriate and mainstreamed financial management of all FGE grants including ensuring due diligence of use of funds by grantees and financial transparency and accountability of FGE in line with UNW regulations;
  • Advocate and work closely with M&R Specialists on knowledge sharing and development of systems and tools for effective implementation of FGE programmes and capacity development of grantee organizations;
  • Work closely with M&R Specialists to reflect regional and local experiences and case evidence into formulation of policy and support the definition and communication of FGE’s global policy position in the practice areas; ensure cross-practice and cross-regional collaboration linking to global experiences;
  • Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with the relevant units within UN Women including DMA (i.e. Finance, Budget, Legal, and Audit), Policy and Programme Units as well as field offices and lead partnership building efforts to support effective programme implementation and oversight;
  • Organize, participate in and/or represent the Fund in internal and external Committees, meetings, and events on FGE’s work on women’s economic and political empowerment;
  • Supports the FGE Chief with the overall management of the Fund, including grantmaking, communications and fundraising activities.

Risk Management and Audit Functions:

  • Under guidance of FGE Chief, oversee all internal and external audit and assessment exercises including coordination with auditors on requested information, participation in meetings, and follow-up as required;
  • Provide Management Responses on behalf of FGE and ensure appropriate implementation of recommendations;
  • Coordinate and ensure the effective implementation of corporate-level accountability tools;
  • Work with FGE’s M&R Specialists and Chief in development of risk-management tools and strategies to ensure effective internal controls are in place;
  • Promote and work closely with the FGE Regional Monitoring & Reporting Specialists to clarify and streamline UN Women and FGE policies and procedures as well as risk management strategies, in order to facilitate the efficient implementation of FGE programmes;
  • In charge of yearly update of the FGE Focal Point guide to ensure clarity and strong alignment of FGE procedures with UN Women’s norms and procedures, and ensure the Fund’s proper inclusion in the UN Women Programme and Operation’s Manual (POM).

Programme Oversight and Monitoring:

  • Oversee Europe and Central Asia (ECA) portfolio of FGE grant programmes and ensure effective and efficient programme implementation through regular monitoring, technical assistance, and communications in coordination with UN Women Focal Points based in the Country and Regional Offices - this includes mission visits as required;
  • Coordinate efficient financial management of ECA grant programmes with grantees and UN Women Focal Points ensuring due diligence, financial transparency, and accountability of financial processes in line with UN Women rules and regulations;
  • Provide guidance and technical support in Evaluation and Audit processes of ECA grantee programmes;
  • Promote visibility and knowledge exchange between grantees, UN Women platforms (Knowledge Gateway, Civil Society Advisory Groups), and external stakeholders on ECA grantee initiatives including dissemination of key findings, good practices, lessons learned from programmes.

Created by cities for cities, C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40) advances the climate action agendas of the world’s megacities in order to achieve meaningful reductions of greenhouse gas emissions and climate risks. The C40 consists of 70 engaged cities that are committed to replicable and sustainable climate-related policies locally, which address climate change globally.
In 2014, C40 launched a competition to place City Advisers around the world to work on the ground in cities to support innovative priorities with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by more than 9 million tonnes C02e over the next five years. Athens was selected to host a City Adviser.
Description
The C40 City Adviser in Athens will work with the political and operational leadership within the city government to facilitate delivery of a measurement & reporting system of GHG emissions data and a fully-integrated Climate Action Plan. The City Adviser’s relationship with city governments and other key stakeholders is critical for efficient and effective delivery. As the ‘on the ground’ Ambassador in the C40 cities, the City Adviser will also ensure that all actions of C40 in Athens are consistent with the organization’s values and strive to strengthen the mutual respect and cooperation between the C40 and the Athens city government.

Deliverables

In partnership with the city, develop a work plan mutually agreed upon by city and C40; support the city’s Priorities to develop a Climate Action Plan and to establish a GHG inventory; work toward milestones for delivery and develop tracking methodology, as outlined in the application submitted to C40 during the competitive process;
Based on the needs of the city, help connect the city to resources including facilitating introductions to C40 networks and other possible partners, and ensure agreement on division of roles and responsibilities on specific collaborative support to the city, ensuring delivery of specialized technical expertise when needed
Provide general advice and staff support to the city government on climate issues and share best practices from other cities;
Ensure appropriate reporting to the C40 leadership and City oversight; maintain appropriate bi-directional communication and information flow to ensure the organization’s capabilities are fully leveraged on the ground;
Maintain and strengthen the reputation of the C40 as a highly capable organization, whose agenda is primarily to partner with government and assist with its most pressing needs in climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Qualifications/skills required

Eight to ten years experience in government, business or NGO sectors with focus on policy development, project management or community organisation, including inter-organisational cooperation and strategy;
Experience working on environmental indicators, inventories or monitoring and reporting;
Experience in integrated environmental management or developing strategy and action plans;
Knowledge of European and international policies for climate change mitigation and adaptation;
Knowledge of green infrastructure or ecosystems approach;
Experience working with or within municipal government on environmental teams and projects preferred;
Experience collaborating with diverse groups of stakeholders;
Experience living and working in Athens;
Fluency in Greek and English;
Demonstrable ability to influence decision-making processes in a diplomatic and collaborative manner;
Exceptional problem-solving, interpersonal and strategic thinking capabilities;
Knowledge and experience related to environmental policy, the energy sector, or risk management is desirable but not mandatory;
