The EVS project will be designed with the volunteer and the sending organisation and it would take place in one or more of the above-mentioned activities, combining time schedule of the different structures, following the hosting period, the volunteer’s interests and his/her skills and competences.
Volunteers are generally hosted at the International guesthouse of CEMEA del Mezzogiorno, located in the same municipality where most of the services provided by the association are realised and in which volunteers are involved. It is dedicated to the hospitality of young people and adults participating in European projects of learning mobility. The multicultural context and the presence on the same floor of different realities of the third sector (theatrical association, Alfredino Rampi center, the nucleus of civil protection, multi-purpose hall with bodily activities, dance, music...) represent a special opportunity for exchange and socialization both among people coming from abroad and with locals. This context multiplies the opportunities for aggregation and integration of the volunteer in the host community. Each accommodation is fully equipped with a kitchen with everything needed for cooking, a bathroom with shower and sink, whereas the toilets are outside the room and they are specifically dedicated to our guests. Each volunteer could share the accommodation with a maximum of 1 other volunteer, but each of them has his/her own personal space which is equipped with a bunk bed, so that you can accommodate a visiting friend or relative, without compromising the personal space of the other volunteer. The hospitality must still be agreed with the mentor and planned at least two weeks in advance, by submitting an application on a special form discharging the association from any liability responsibility towards the external person hosted.
This form includes the acceptance the other volunteer, that must be in this way informed. The hospitality, however, may not exceed 48 consecutive hours. In case of availability of accommodation in the guesthouse, the association may evaluate together with the volunteer the opportunity to hospitality different than 2 days (especially in the case of close relatives), providing one of the free accommodations expressly for the hosting period. The volunteers during the preparation at a distance, before their arrival, they receive an informative dedicated to these operational rules together with the recommendations related to the use of the kitchen and equipment of the rooms, the use of the washing machine present in the bathrooms area, the rules of coexistence with other volunteers present in the structure and the main safety recommendations. The regulation is exhibited in Italian and in English in each accommodation and it is delivered and reviewed with the mentor on the arrival, to clarify if there is any difficulty in its understanding and practical functioning.
On the base of volunteer interest and profile, according to the target group he/she would like to work with (children, adolescent, youngsters...), the project takes place in one or more of the activities run by CEMEA del Mezzogiorno onlus.

The volunteer will participate to the activities organised by centres (workshops about music, hip hop dance, cooperative games, theatre plays, …). During spring and the beginning of the summer, some of the activities may take place outdoors such as parties and cultural events, ludobus, etc. while in the summer time the volunteer might be involved in some summer camps or recreational centres.
In general the project is specifically oriented to foster an emotional and human contact between volunteers of different countries and the specific target group of the centres he/she is involved in. Participating in welcoming ideas coming from the users, organizing and implementing the consequent actions with them, will support a real integration of the EVS volunteers in the local reality and will put them in condition to positively contribute with their everyday life background. The non formal context will allowed informal abilities and skills of EVS volunteers to come out, becoming a useful facilitating resource both for kids and young people.
The general expected outcomes are to give volunteers, through their participation in an experience abroad, the possibility of increase their self esteem, their capacity of adaptation in another reality and the development of their social skills which are the necessary tools to be conscious and participative actors of the local reality they are living in.
Other expected outcomes are the development of specific skills and attitudes directly linked to the project such as competences in social animation in the work with children and teenagers, team working and linguistic skills.
We think that the improvement of the Italian language will help the volunteer in the integration in the local community and the project. For this reason, an intensive Italian language course will be provided. The language course (format, duration and frequency) will be adapted as much as possible to the volunteer needs, abilities and learning difficulties.
The EVS volunteers will be part of the educational team and they will have a special reference person inside of it, that will guide and take care of their integration in the team and with the users, already existing at their arrival. The project has been studied in order to put the EVS volunteers in condition to rapidly get in to the project and to acquire a specific role in the centres, based on his/her abilities and personal background, with specific goals and responsibilities to manage, adapted to his/her motivation and interests.

The project can be divided in several phases that will last differently on the base of the volunteer that will take part to it. During the Observation phase the volunteer can develop his/her ability to read which are the dynamics and the relationships inside the group coming in the centre. He/she will have the possibility to share his/her observations with the member of the educational team that will have the function of supervisor, giving a feed back on them and taking the opportunity to come back to the history of each specific user in the centre, if necessary.
The Participation phase can be simultaneous or not with the previous one, depending on the volunteer, and it will be focused on following some activities, helping the most active users to deal with activities that they are leading together with the whole educational team.
Tandem is a first step of responsibility, shared with one member of the team, in leading a process of support towards a specific activity, in which the volunteer will chose to accompany a specific group on a specific topic.
Start up is an opportunity for the volunteer to come out with a new idea/activity to propose to the users, depending also to the level of relationship established with them and adapted to his/her level of integration, that will represent a challenging experience for the volunteer himself/herself. He/she will be responsible for this activity from the beginning to the end.
Visibility towards an external public and local authorities is a need for all the activities developed in the centres, in order to support educative activities and youth participation. The idea developed during the start up phase will follow the same logic and the volunteer will plan with the whole team which activities will valorise what has been proposed.
The creation of every relationship has to be followed at the beginning, but it is also necessary to plan in time the Step out phase, where the volunteer can have enough space to prepare the end of his/her project, taking care of the detachment from the group and preparing the departure.
During all the period of staying, the supervisor, the mentor and the volunteer will take care of reading all the dynamics through a special approach called G.R.O.W. Taking care of fixing at the beginning of each phase the expectations of the volunteer (Goal), he/she will be guided in considering always the reality he/she is discovering day by day (Reality). Checking if the goal fixed is reachable on the base of reality, they will help him¬/her to fix actual Objectives in order to better focus his/her action. Checking always if objectives can be concretely linked to reality and the goal chosen, the volunteer will be always invited to identify What to do, When to do it and Who will do it, in order to concretely contribute during the team meetings. Last but not least the volunteer will be invited to check if there is the Will inside the educational team and the group, if agreement and participation are really present in his/her reference group.
Cemea del Mezzogiorno together with the sending organisation will adapt this generic scheme to the motivation, needs and abilities of the volunteers involved in the project, trying to create all the conditions for an accompanied growing up of the volunteer from one side and a concrete and positive effect of their presence inside the centres. The volunteers will take part to the pre-departure preparation pathway provided by her/his sending organization and in the on arrival training and mid-term evaluation organised by the National Agencies. Their participation to the final evaluation coming back to their country will be strongly recommended as a very important moment of evaluation and valorisation of the project done.
The volunteer schedule has been planned taking into account the importance to invest on his/her integration at the beginning and the need to have more time and responsibilities in the second part of his/her staying. Considering the amount of energies needed for dealing with a more concrete role in the second part of the project, we have increased also free time in order to let the volunteer having some space for enjoying the hosting place.
Two complete days per week are free, normally Saturday and Sunday, even if some activities, especially in the visibility phase can be developed in week end. If so, the educational team and the volunteer will plan this exceptions in advance and will choose together another complete free day, immediately in the week that follows the event.
In the first period after the arrival, twice per week the mentor will meet the volunteer, one in the office, discussing how the EVS project is going on, and one directly in the centres, in order to put in condition the volunteer to show and share which is his/her everyday involvement in the centre. Normally in this second meeting also the person in charge of the volunteer integration in the centre will be present. In the second phase, when the volunteer will be more autonomous, the mentoring will be reduced to one meeting per week.
A mid-term evaluation meeting and a final one are normally planned with the volunteer, supervisor, mentor and the coordinator of the service in order to design together the ongoing process of learning of the volunteer and his/her impact in the local reality.
In the principles and methodology of CEMEA, one of the 10 focus is the motivation to learn. The motivation to learn and motivation to act are the impulses that allow the individual to make an effort in the pleasure of doing; these two motivations represent the push for a not superficial commitment, towards an action that is done for his/her own interest but also “to be with”, to share with the others the discoveries, the enthusiasm, the defeats, the desire to keep looking. The education of CEMEA asks participants a sort of “motivational agreement” and a mutual commitment of attention and care.
According to our philosophy, the main selection criteria will be motivation more than experience or studies in the field. Curiosity and flexibility are well accepted and very useful to face EVS experience, even more than specific skills in the field. Interest in learning Italian as a foreign language is needed, but it is not required any previous knowledge of it. We consider a candidate to our EVS projects only if presented by his/her sending organisation because we believe in the need of a strong relationship and cooperation between the three actors involved in the European Voluntary Service. Normally, CEMEA del Mezzogiorno will launch the call to submit applications within its international partnership, gathering the profiles of the candidates from the possible sending organizations within the deadline, and, together with the hosting team, a matching between the interests, motivation, the background of the candidates and the host service will be realized.
CEMEA del Mezzogiorno will select volunteers regardless of their sex or religion, by their geographical origin, ethnicity or age. The project is open to young people with fewer opportunities.

Due to the great complexity and variety of Cemea services it is really possible to gather almost a tailor-made pathway for each volunteer. In general Cemea del Mezzogiorno services can usually host up to 10 volunteers at the same time, distributed in the different services and with different project lasting. Collective EVS with more than 10 volunteers at the same time are conceivable in case of special events, inclusion projects or tailor-made activities foreseeing within the territorial actions of Cemea del Mezzogiorno in the field of solidarity, environment and immigration.
For ensuring a safe and healthy environment it is important to take into account different issues before, during and after the EVS project.
Before the arrival of the volunteer, it will be drawn up a “Management Framework”, which lists the main activities and approximate timescales for completing them.
If possible, in case of volunteers with fewer opportunities, an advanced planning visit will be organised to facilitate the volunteer’s integration in the hosting environment, to identify any potential problems and provide any further information that could be useful for the volunteers integration. The visit should also cover some aspects related to health and safety. If the APV is not possible, then these issues will be discussed by telephone, mail, skype, using a checklist and agreed in writing.
A risk assessment will be done that covers the following aspects: travel to and from the host country, local transports, accommodation, project placement and free time activities.
It will be important to ensure that the volunteer receive as much information as possible prior to departure and an adequate preparation from the sending organisation.
During the project there will be an ongoing support, both from the sending and hosting organisation that will help to safeguard the volunteer’s integration in the new social and project environment and will help to resolve “critical” situations.

Description of the EVS hosting organization:

Volunteers from Lithuania, Denmark, United Kingdom, France and Poland are needed for a Service of 12 months in Armenia in one of 4 Host Organisations working in the children field – Zatik Social Centre, SOS Children’s Village, Ognem Foundation and Children’s Rehabilitation Centre!
The main stress of these organisations is supporting children that have certain issues with inclusion in the society and/or profound need of support. The target group consists of orphans and children with physical/mental disabilities or diseases, who more than others need care and support.
Zatik is a social centre in Yerevan, Armenia where disadvantaged children found a home filled with love and care; although many doors were knocked upon for food. The main concern of the centre is for the future of these children. One of the major goals to enable them to find an identity and a position in the changing Armenian society. Zatik has 100 children aged from 3-17.
SOS – Children’s Village of Kotayq, Armenia is the new family orphans and abandoned children found. They have a SOS Mother and siblings in the houses they live in and they have created a familiar atmosphere around houses of SOS. There are 57 children at the moment in the Village.
Rehabilitation Centre for children is an institution located in Yerevan, Armenia that works with children with disabilities. The children of the centre receive their treatment there and sometimes spend a long time in the centre until their recovery.
Ognem Foundation works with children with leukaemia – a form of blood cancer. They fund the treatment of these children in Armenian hospitals and abroad, as well as organise various activities for those children.
The main objective of the project “The Children Who Waited” is non-formal education of these children, their moral support and help in their becoming full and independent members of society. Therefore, you have a very unique role of elder tutor-friend, who they can take a lot from. The activities with children will be held in semi-formal or non-formal way.

The field of activities for this EVS project fits in a regional scale. The local environment is made up by Youth Information network (PIJ, BIJ, CIJ) in Ile-de-France region, institutional partners, most of them being actively present at CIDJ (Conseil Régional IDF, Kiosque Paris jeunes, CIO Médiacom, Pole emploi, APASO, ADIL, CLLAJ, …). The young public (from 15 to 30 years) coming to find information and documentation at CIDJ, constitutes the keystone of this project.
