The Communications Manager is responsible for all aspects of communication, including the planning and implementation of activities to promote APF Canada's research, projects, experts, and events. The Communications Manager ensures that there is consistent and effective dissemination of APF Canada's brand, key messages and program outputs.

Major Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a communications plan for APF Canada as a whole, as well as for specific APF Canada projects and events, in collaboration with APF Canada staff;
  • Develop communications-related policies and procedures around content production, social media and other communications priorities;
  • Develop and implement media strategies for APF Canada research, projects and events;
  • Manage the Media Fellowship Programme, including recruitment, selection and coordination of media fellows' involvement in the Foundation's activities, as well as ongoing reassessment and redevelopment of the Media Fellowship Programme as required;
  • Work closely with the Information Specialist on website maintenance and improvements, including the development of micro sites for APF Canada events and projects;
  • Manage APF Canada's public relations, including responding to requests and inquiries from members of the public;
  • Write and manage the production of APF Canada annual report, newsletters, and other periodicals as needed;
  • Provide support for substantive and copy editing for APF Canada publications and commentary.

Desired Skills and Abilities

  • Superior editing and writing skills;
  • Knowledge of communications and public relations strategies;
  • Knowledge of current affairs in Asia and Canada and Canada-Asia relations;
  • Ability to create persuasive messages;
  • Knowledge of Canadian and international media organizations and practices;
  • Demonstrated tact and diplomacy and the ability to work with multiple stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated ability in organizational planning;
  • Ability to multi-task and work under short deadlines;
  • Experience managing staff preferred;
  • Competency in English and French and/or one Asian language preferred;
  • Designations in Public Relations, Marketing and Editing would be an asset;
  • Experience managing social media at an organizational level;
  • Knowledge of trends and best practices in online content production an asset;
  • Knowledge of and experience with Drupal and Raiser's Edge an asset;
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office.

Education and Experience

  • Post secondary training in Communications, Public Relations, Social Sciences or Related fields;
  • Designation in Public Relations, Marketing, and editing an asset;
  • Minimum of 4-7 years of relevant experience.
