Research Fellowship in Classics, Indian languages or Indo-European Philology, Christ’s College, University of Cambridge

Christ’s College, Cambridge invites applications for the W H D Rouse Research Fellowship, for work in Classics, Indian languages or Indo-European philology. It will be tenable for four years from not later than 1 October 2015. Applications are invited from candidates who hold a first degree, or a higher degree, or who are studying for a higher degree. A Junior Research Fellowship is intended for a researcher early in their career and offers an opportunity to carry out novel research in a stimulating academic environment. Candidates should not hold or have held a stipendiary research fellowship at another Oxford or Cambridge College. The successful candidate is expected to be either a graduate student, probably in the latter stages of their research leading to a PhD Degree (or equivalent), or a post-doctoral researcher who has been awarded their PhD Degree after 1 January 2014.

The stipend of a Junior Research Fellow is currently £21,391 (with a PhD) or £17,528 (without a PhD) provided that the Fellow is not paid from elsewhere (other than remuneration for up to six hours’ College or University teaching a week). Fellows living out of College receive a non-pensionable living-out allowance of £4,246 (with a PhD) or £1,943 (without a PhD). The stipend for a Fellow who has additional emoluments (other than that for up to six hours teaching) will be reduced by the total amount of pay received.
Applications should be sent to masters-assistant@christs.cam.ac.uk to arrive no later than Monday 26 January 2015, and should include a curriculum vitae with details of qualifications, publications and experience, a statement of proposed research and the names and addresses of two persons who have agreed to act as academic referees. Candidates must arrange for their referees to send their reference directly to masters-assistant@christs.cam.ac.uk so that references are received by the same closing date of Monday 26 January 2015. Shortlisted candidates will be asked for copies of written work (not exceeding 20,000 words) and may be invited for interviews, expected to be held in the week commencing 27 April 2015.

Any candidate eligible for the Rouse Fellowship who applied for the Christ’s College Junior Research Fellowship competition 2015 (closing date 30 October 2014) may, instead of reapplying, request that the same application is carried forward for the Rouse Fellowship.

Christ’s College invites applications for a non-stipendiary post as a College Research Associate Fellow for research in any subject, open to those who have, or expect to have, secured postdoctoral research funding support at Cambridge University. The Fellowship will be tenable for at least two years, but no more than four years, from not later than 1 October 2015.

Applications are invited from candidates who hold a first degree, or a higher degree or are studying for a higher degree. Candidates are advised that a Research Fellowship such as this is intended for a researcher early in their career, and will offer an opportunity to carry out novel research in a stimulating academic environment.
A successful applicant is expected to be either a graduate student, in the latter stages of research leading to a PhD Degree (or equivalent), or a post-doctoral researcher who has been awarded their PhD Degree after 1 January 2013.

Candidates who do not fulfil these criteria are unlikely to be considered except in exceptional circumstances. In addition to pursuing research, it is hoped that a Research Fellow will take a full part in College life and activities. Where appropriate, he or she may have the opportunity to undertake a few hours of undergraduate teaching a week during term, for which payment will be made at normal supervision rates.

The Fellow will be a member of the Governing Body, eligible to sit on College committees, with the full privileges of a Fellow. Privileges include seven free meals per week, the possibility of limited financial support for expenses associated with their research, use of a study room or, where appropriate, single accommodation in College.

Letters of Application (there are no forms) should be sent to mastersassistant@christs.cam.ac.uk) to arrive no later than noon on Friday 2 January 2015, including a curriculum vitae with details of qualifications, publications and experience and the names and addresses of two persons who have agreed to act as academic referees. Candidates must arrange for their referees to send their references direct to masters-assistant@christs.cam.ac.uk so that references are received by the closing date of noon on Friday 2 January 2015.

(It may not be necessary for referees to write a new reference: submitting a copy of a reference already sent in connection with the applicant’s postdoctoral appointment will often suffice.) Short-listed candidates may be invited for interviews, expected to held on Friday 16 January 2015.
