Contract: 12 weeks fixed term contract

Every summer, we bring new ideas to the organisation by taking on between 10 and 12 interns for a 12-week period from June - September. We learn from having new talent in the organisation during the summer months; plus, we gain an insight into how we can deliver the best opportunities for young people. In return, you learn new skills while on a paid internship, and make some useful contacts for the future. If you are keen to learn more about working for a global charity and to make a real difference over the summer then this opportunity is definitely for you!

As part of the programme you will join a specific department in one of our key business areas, and work with a dedicated line manager working on real projects, that add value to our organisation and our international work. You will also take part in a group project, where you will be able to apply your project management and team working skills as well as receiving career advice and training that provide you with real direction and perspective to take away with you on completion of the programme.

Corporate Communications and Events Internship:

The Corporate Communications team plays a central role in building and protecting the reputation of the British Council. It leads on our media relations work for global issues and with UK/international media. The team also manages the homepage of our corporate website and related social media channels. Communications also includes the events team, which manages high profile events from dinners with UK and overseas ministers through to conferences for more than 1,000 people.

The internship will be focussed on the Edinburgh showcase project- a biennial showcase of contemporary UK theatre and dance, during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. 2015 marks the 10th Edinburgh Showcase. The successful candidate would also be responsible for some aspects of our social media, press and internal communications surrounding the showcase, developing a plan to knit these elements together and developing a great communications skill set over the summer period.

The ideal candidate will be used to working towards some tight deadlines, have some events experience and be an avid social media user.
