Norlha is a non-profit, non-political, non-religious association based in Lausanne, Switzerland, that supports remote communities in the Himalayas in building capacities that will allow their sustainable development. Currently Norlha is looking for a replacement in senior management:

Head of Communication and Public Relations

Part-time, long-term position

As Head of Communications and Public Relations you are responsible for the planning, development and implementation of the organisation’s communication strategy. You are an active member of the Senior Management Team.

Mission and activities :

Head of the Communication Department

You lead and manage the communication team, implementing Communication strategy, in collaboration with the Director and other Department managers, and supported by the Communication assistant
You analyze the impact of chosen communication strategies to improve and grow steadily
You lead a group of 5-10 people. You are responsible for recruitment, supervision and a working atmosphere that attracts and motivates the communication team.
Key areas of the Communication departments include:
o Institutional communication: you give the editorial line and supervise the print- and digital- production of key documents as well as the website. This includes a storytelling strategy.

o External communication:you lead the event management, social media and traditional media (press and TV) activities. You ensure Norlha’s presence in local events related to Norlha’s core activities and organise Norlha public events to promote the NGO. You also contribute to the dynamic presence of the organisation in the media (social media as well as traditional media).

o Membership management: you supervise this important part of Norlha’s support base, in coordination with other Norlha departments.

o Small-partners: to root Norlha in the local context, you work on creating and reinforcing small partnerships with local businesses and partners. Both visibility and fundraising are important objective of this strategy.

o Visual branding: for the needs of the entire organisation, you manage the visual identity throughout the organisation.

Senior Management :

You report to the Director of the organization
You serve as a member of the Senior Management Teamin the meetings and the decision processes of all important strategic issues, thus contributing to the strategic steering of Norlha (in line with its vision and mission), and its overall management
As a member of the SMT, you participate to occasional discussions with the Strategic Board on overall management issues
Candidate profile :

Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of communications and public relations activities
Outgoing nature and solid interpersonal skills
Experience in team management and basic project management
Experience in overseeing the design and production of communication materials and publications an asset
Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal skills
Strong oral and written communications skills.

Working time: at least 40% (2 days per week)

Applicant must have a currently valid working permit in Switzerland.To this day Norlha heavily relies on volunteer work; a modest remuneration is being budgeted for this position and will be confirmed during the interview.

Location: Norlha office in Lausanne, partial home-based work possible; weekly presence in the office is required.
