The Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard is inviting applications for fellowships to work on special research projects designed to advance journalism. Up to 12 fellowships are offered. US citizens and journalists from other countries may apply for this fellowship.  Nieman fellowships are awarded to print, broadcast and online reporters, editors, photographers, producers, columnists, filmmakers and cartoonists with at least five years of full-time, professional experience in the news media.

Eligibility: Applicants need not be practicing journalists, but must demonstrate the ways in which their work at Harvard and the Nieman Foundation may improve the prospects for journalism’s future. Those who should consider applying include publishers, programmers, Web designers, media analysts, academics, journalists and others interested in enhancing quality, building new business models or designing programs to improve journalism. What does it cover? As with other longer-term Nieman fellowships, a Visiting Fellow’s employer is encouraged to extend the employee’s salary and benefits during the period of study. If such funding is not available, a standard Nieman stipend will be provided to the Visiting Fellow and prorated for the length of the fellowship. The Nieman Foundation will also help candidates find temporary housing in the Cambridge area.
The Nieman-Berkman Fellow will receive the standard Nieman Fellowship stipend from the Nieman Foundation, which is $65,000 over nine months. Fellows receive additional allowances for housing, childcare, and health insurance, which differ in size depending on their family situation.

Independent Diplomat is recruiting an intern for its Brussels office to assist with policy research and general administration.
Independent Diplomat (ID) is a unique non-profit venture in the world of international relations, diplomacy and conflict prevention. Staffed by former diplomats and other experts in international relations, ID offers independent and confidential advice and assistance on diplomatic technique and strategy to governments, international institutions, non-governmental organisations and political groups. Independent Diplomat has offices in New York, London, Brussels and Washington.
ID internships provide an excellent opportunity to be closely involved in a fast-growing international organisation working at the cutting edge of international affairs and diplomacy. Internships are voluntary and unpaid, but home to office travel expenses will be reimbursed.
Internship details
The internship will start on Friday 19 September for an agreed duration of four-to-six months. ID prefers that its interns are available to work during office hours five days a week. Independent Diplomat cannot provide visa sponsorship.
Successful candidates will have a strong knowledge of and demonstrated interest in international affairs and diplomacy, especially the European Union and other international institutions. Above all, candidates should exhibit an enthusiasm for conflict prevention and resolution, as well as for the mission of Independent Diplomat more broadly.

Candidates must be willing to undertake a wide range of tasks, including political research, the production of reports and media summaries within tight deadlines, coordinating the calendar for the Brussels head of office, organising meetings and general administrative tasks. Previous office experience (either paid or other internships) is essential, as is the ability to fit in with a small and busy team working in an open-plan environment. Successful candidates will hold a relevant graduate degree, and preferably a relevant Master’s degree. IT skills are required. The European Youth Press (EYP) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced person to fill the position of fundraiser. When applicable, the candidate may also have project management responsibilities. The selected candidate will be requested to work part-time to full-time for EYP at their secretariat in Brussels and is, under the guidance of the executive board, responsible for:
  • Identifying and writing grant and project proposals;
  • Actively looking for additional funding through sponsorships, advertisement;
  • Drafting a fundraising strategy for the European Youth Press;
  • Developing new and imaginative fundraising activities;
  • Developing and coordinating web-based fundraising;
  • External representation at different events, organisations and political institutions in the Brussels area;
  • External communication and support for Member Organisations of the EYP;

Eligibility

  • Experience in fundraising, preferably in NGOs;
  • Experience in project management and administration;
  • Experience in non-governmental organisations, preferably on a European level;
  • Basic knowledge of finances and book-keeping;
  • Experience in writing grant applications, ideally for EU grants;
  • Excellent written and spoken command of English knowledge of other languages, in particular French, is an asset;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and be familiar with online communication;
  • Developing and coordinating web-based fundraising;
  • A strong interest in the media, prior experience in media making is desirable;

Funciones:

Realizar el seguimiento técnico de los programas y proyectos asignados de acuerdo a la normativa de los donantes y a los procedimientos de SCI y SCE.
Apoyar a las Oficinas País de SCI de acuerdo a sus necesidades para la correcta implementación de los proyectos y programas.
Presentar de los informes requeridos por los donantes y todas aquellas comunicaciones necesarias para la buena ejecución del proyecto o programa.
Establecer y seguir un plan de Monitoreo, Evaluación y Aprendizaje con las Oficinas País, para cada uno de los proyectos o programas.
Dar apoyo temático a las Oficinas País de acuerdo a las necesidades de las mismas.
Garantizar una participación activa en todos los mecanismos de coordinación y comunicación de SC Internacional (GI, Grupos de trabajo, Oficinas de diferentes países, etc) establecidos y relevantes con las funciones de la Unidad.

The European Forum for Urban Security (Efus) is a European network of over 250 local authorities created in 1987 with the support of the Council of Europe. Its objective is to strengthen crime prevention policies and to promote the role of local elected officials in national and European policy making.

Efus works on all areas of urban security by creating links among local authorities throughout Europe, thanks to the exchange of practices and knowledge, cooperation and training. Job description

You will work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural team (10 people) and will report to the Communications Manager. You will mainly work on:

Web: Content creation and weekly update of the website, help in improving web interface, coordination of the monthly newsletter, Search Engine Optimisation on partner and other websites.
Community Management: Managing Efus social network and media
You will also be involved in all the communication activities of Efus, which are:

Press Relations: Updating the media contacts database, monitoring news about security throughout Europe, helping put together press kits.
Public Relations: Dissemination of key messages, relations with national Forums, members of the network, and other target groups.
Publishing: Attend brief meetings, coordination of external providers (graphic designers, printer, etc.)
Translation of communications supports

Your profile
- University Degree, preferably in Communications, Marketing or Languages.
- Languages: Very good knowledge of English and French (One of the two must be your mother tongue). One other European language is a plus.
- Computer skills: Office pack (Photoshop and/or Indesign + WordPress will be a plus)
- You are well organised, have an eye for detail, and are a good team-worker. You are also able to work independently. You are dynamic, curious and creative. You have a proven ability as a writer.
